The rooster has been a popular design in ceramics around the globe. While he can be found on plates and vases in oriental ceramics, mainly in the company of other animals, in Europe we find the rooster, or his breed, adorning ceramics all on his own.

In France, where the rooster has become a national symbol, we find many faience manufacturers using the glorious gallus to decorate plates, saucers, cups, and the like. Also in Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Czeck Republic and Belgium, the rooster is popular presence on table services. In Popular Ceramic Table Services with a Rooster Design we show you over fifty brands.

We equally show you two special faience collections from Italy.

First the Buon Ricordo Chicken Plates all feature a different Chicken dish from as many restaurants around the country. A typical attraction of the Buon Ricordo Union of restaurants is that, after eating the featured dish, the customer is presented the plate depicting the particular dish he just finished.

Our Chanting Rooster Wine Pitchers collection shows one hundred and twenty gallomorph pitchers embellishing diningroom tables all across Italy. The origin of these pitchers dates back to the early Renaissance period in the Republic of Florence, when roosters saved the Medici ruler from being assasinated. Nowadays it is traditionally given to friends at weddings and housewarmings, symbolizing one's wishes for good fortune.
